Supply Chain Costing and Performance Management

This presentation is based on the book “Supply Chain Costing and Performance Management” that Gary Cokins co-authored published by John Wiley & Sons. The book is a result of a research study to examine the application of supply chain profit and costing measurement methods in multiple industries and international settings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Why there is pressure on supply chain trading partners to collaborate rather than be adversarial.
  • Why customers are the source of shareholder wealth creation for suppliers.
  • How to measure and manage supplier, product, channel, and customer profitability.
  • Why as differentiation from product advantages is reduced or neutralized due to commoditization, then service level differentiation matters, and the customer relationship grows in importance as a competitive advantage.
  • How to shift the mindset from growing sales to growing profitable sales and to view customers as investments like in a stock portfolio to seek higher ROIs – return on customers (ROC).
  • How to consider influencing a company’s suppliers’ suppliers and customers’ customers – second tiers and above.

President's Message

Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your membership and support of the world’s first professional organization dedicated to the field of global supply management, procurement and supply chain. ISM has been a great resource for me over the years in many ways: networking and learning from fellow members, thought leadership from ISM and their partners such as Resilinc and Kloopify and the Report on Business which helps me deliver insights to my stakeholders and company leadership.

As President, I’ve been able to work alongside some talented people across multiple industries and locations on our Board of Directors. We delivered two regional conferences in High Point, NC last year and grew our student membership through our faculty partners and our case competition. Additionally, we’ve seen students participate in ISM’s global case competition (Go Wolfpack!) and made into the top ten university teams worldwide!! Personally and professionally, it gives me a sense of fulfillment that I’ve been associated with so much great work in our profession.

As we enter our 2024-2025 programming year, I encourage each of us to reflect on the past year. Also, however, I encourage us to think ahead as to what impact we, each, can make to mentor / groom the next generation of procurement and supply chain talent, share insights and experiences with each other and take an active role in ISM CV and our satellite chapters. We are ISM Carolinas Virginia and we are the secret to our success.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as President and I look forward to seeing what my second year holds for our great chapter!

Sincerely,

Dupre Jones, CPSM CPSD
